Maize Streak Disease
Narrow, pale yellow to white streaks running parallel to leaf veins. Stunted growth in severe cases.
Can cause 10โ100% yield loss depending on infection stage. Spread by leafhoppers.
Northern Corn Leaf Blight
Long, cigar-shaped grayish-green to tan lesions (5โ15 cm). Appears first on lower leaves, spreads upward.
30โ50% yield reduction if infection occurs before tasseling. Spreads rapidly in humid conditions.
Common Rust
Oval to elongated reddish-brown pustules scattered across both leaf surfaces. Powdery texture when rubbed.

Before designing AgriLens AI, we conducted product discovery interviews with maize farmers and agricultural stakeholders across Nigeria to understand how diseases are identified, how treatment decisions are made, and the barriers farmers face when accessing timely agricultural advice.
These insights revealed that many farmers rely on visual guesswork, struggle to differentiate diseases, and often receive treatment guidance too late. In many cases, they receive no guidance at all. These findings directly shaped every design decision in AgriLens AI.
